Fergus Digital Journey

Empowering students to understand their digital responsibilities from an early age is a key component of any program where students are introduced to one-to-one devices. This should always be accompanied by parent opportunities to also learn ways to support their children.

One of the ways I have introduced this at my school is through using the Junior School mascot to go on a digital journey.

 

Fergus goes through a number of digital journeys which have become focus lessons in each class which are developmentally appropriate for each year group. The students are introduced to the badges they can collect as they begin to develop their confidence, understanding and skills in each of the areas.

 

Keynote workshops were developed for each of the class teachers to work through with their students. Each of the badges has a focus on a key component to help empower students to understand how they can show themselves as digitally organised, digitally creative. They also need to show their understanding of digital security and safety and demonstrate digital balance. Digital detective and digital hero help them to feel empowered to know that they can stand up for themselves and others online.
