3rd Observation with Apple Education: Philosophy and Virtue Scale
- The focus of the lesson was to review the idea of the virtue scale that we went over in our previous class and introduce the ideas of Deontology and Utilitarianism. In our final couple of weeks before winter break we are focusing on Philosophy and the scientific revolution to prepare our students to talk about the enlightenment and different revolutions when we return from break. The main method of delivery for this lesson was google slides with Pear Deck being utilized in a variety of way ranging from placing a cursor over the correct answer and checking for understanding.
- What I changed for this lesson was to make it more interactive on their end. I hadn't built in any Pear Deck for this existing lesson until this year. The lesson focusing on the virtue scale, deontology, and Utilitarianism existed but not necessarily in this order. After the lesson I did change a couple of things to make Pear Deck run smoother like removing transitions and it did run smoother in my next class.
- The impact of this lesson was providing them with real world examples of applying the virtue scale to individuals and companies. Using Pear Deck and a variety of videos ranging from examples from The Good Place and The Dark Knight gave them more concrete understanding of the topics. Using Pear Deck also gave me confidence that my students were understanding the concepts we were discussing in the class.

Thanks for sharing the evolution of this lesson and the outcomes of your changes. Reflecting on our teaching and how we can iterate to improve learning is a valuable part of teaching. I appreciate you modeling that for us in your post!
