Teaming Up with Techsperts

As the digital learning specialist on my elementary campus I have the great privilege of teaming up with Techsperts. These are student leaders in 3rd through 5th grade that meet with me monthly to develop digital learning, problem-solving, and leadership skills. The kids then go on to provide support for their teachers, classmates, and younger students.

This is year three of our Techsperts program, and it has been so encouraging to see the impact these student leaders are having. They are teaching classmates and teachers new technology skills, providing support for substitutes, and promoting digital citizenship. The highlight of the year was when a handful of these kiddos presented for the first time ever at our district’s annual Digital Learning Expo. Educators from across the district learned how Keynote’s Live Video can be utilized in the classroom from these student leaders. It was absolutely amazing!

I am so excited to see what the future holds for our program and Techsperts. Their presentation at the Expo was such a hit that I know I’ll for sure be utilizing these kids more next year at professional development.

If you have the opportunity to team up with Techsperts on your campus, I highly encourage you to give it a try. And if you have any advice to help us improve what we have established so far, please share. These kiddos have a growth mindset and want to continue to develop and refine their skills. They may be small in size, but they're determined to have a BIG, positive impact on our campus.

What a super program for the student helpers and the teachers! I know teachers really appreciate it when students can guide them in tech and help other learners. Also love the name, “Techsperts.” Thanks for sharing your inspiring story.
