Delighted to read in Apple News about the Apple Maps Guides created by the Smithsonian for Black History Month!

The Smithsonian created a series of Guides in Apple Maps to spotlight key landmarks in the struggle for civil rights over the past century (1900-1957, 1960-1978, 1980-2020). Users can explore the Guides to learn more about the events, people, and places that have shaped the nation’s history.

I always appreciate the intersection of history and place on Maps through the Guides. I’d love to hear lesson ideas you have for using this content during Black History Month. I’m thinking this might be used as a model for students to research and create, in Keynote or Pages, a map guide to Black History locations or celebrations in their localize community. What else?

Thank you for sharing Cheryl! Wow. We have a 9th Grade AP American Government and Politics Class heading to Philadelphia and Washington D.C. in a few weeks. These are powerful resources to share with our teachers, chaperones, and students. What a great teaching tool to front-load learning and build excitement around this unique class trip!
