'Back to School' Digital Journal

The ‘Back to School’ resource is a digital journal (created in Pages) which encourages students to use their device creatively by completing scaffolded challenges based in photography, video, audio and drawing.

Students complete five iPad creativity challenges using iWork and creativity apps to earn digital badges for their school bag which they can customise with badges and fun stickers.

As more and more schools move to 1:1 iPad programs, it is important that we teach students how to use technology in creative ways. At the end of the day, we want students not only to be consumers of knowledge but creators of digital content.

Earn Badges

As students complete each activity in the journal, they earn an app badge based on the activity.

Students can customise their digital schoolbag by dragging and dropping the Creativity Challenge Badges. They can also add a selection of fun badges (or find their own) to personalise the school bag.

The Creativity Challenges are:

  • Clips Badge Introduce Yourself with Video
  • GarageBand Badge Record a Podcast Interview
  • Keynote Badge Create a Well-being Infographic
  • Numbers Badge Visualise Data for Your Class
  • Pages Badge Make a School Scrapbook

Scaffolded Challenges

The Back to School journal comes with downloadable scaffolds to guide students through each challenge. The resource kits can be found the instruction pages for each activity.

Wow! I wish we had this for the first week of school. I’m definitely going to put this in my back pocket to share with teachers for next school year!

What a great way to dive into the school year using creative tools available on iPad.
