Realistic Fiction Unit in Writer's Workshop for 4th Graders

In the realistic fiction unit, my students in 4th grade make videos in Keynote about their life in 30 years. They use texts to write about their story, then add up emojis, pictures, tracing, recording, and audio, and use drawing tools in Keynote. In the end, they generate their project into videos.

Then, we have Apple Celebration ceremony together. This year, we had one hour open house in the classroom. We had visitors from Apple company, the school district, and the school management team, parents, and classes from other grades joined us. Visitors entered the room, and stood in front of students. Then students present their videos to them and answered their questions.

What a great idea - their life in 30 years. So creative!

I bet their videos are so interesting, to see where they plan to or think they will be in 30 years! Very cool that they're able to share their work with an authentic audience as well.

What an amazing way to synthesize so many skills and goals for students: literacy, creativity, critical thinking! I'm sure the videos are fantastic, especially since students were invited to include multimedia elements!
