Everyone Can Create: Matariki Project with iPad is a series of 4 workshops where @Trudi and I demonstrated the power of Freeform, Tayasui Sketches School, Keynote, Garageband and iMovie to capture and express our learning during a Matariki Inquiry.
In Aotearoa New Zealand we celebrate Matariki during mid-winter. Matariki is the Māori name for the cluster of stars - also known as Pleiades. The rising of these stars signal the start of the Māori New Year.
During the first session, @Trudi gave us a fabulous introduction to Freeform and showed how we might use it to brainstorm, plan, map out and gather information for our inquiry.
In the second session Trudi showed us how to create stunning visual representations of the Matariki whetu (stars) using Tayasui Sketches School. We then imported our stars into Keynote where we learned how to animate them and export as a video file.
Recap Session 3: Create a soundtrack with GarageBand on iPad
During this third session we went on a journey of discovery, experimenting with the touch instruments and live loops to create a beautiful soundscape, reflecting our understanding of the meanings behind each of the Matariki stars.
Here is a recording of that session for you to view:
GarageBand is such a powerful app that provides a great platform for creative expression.

Recap Session 4: Share learning through video with iMovie and Clips
iMovie provides the perfect platform for app smashing. App smashing is when you combine the power of more than one app to produce your outcome. This gives students creative freedom and agency in choosing the best tools (apps) for the brief, taking their movie making next level!
Below is a recording of our final session where we pulled all of our content together with the magic of iMovie. Our final outcome was a combination of Tayasui Sketches School artwork, Keynote animation, Clips poster titles, iMovie Green Screening, with our GarageBand soundscape. A great example of app smashing to celebrate our learning journey!
