Go on a Color Scavenger Hunt: A FREE Interactive Workbook for Back-to-School with Early Learners

Back to school season is upon us, and as an art teacher working with kindergarten and first-grade students, I wanted to spice up our lessons with something exciting and hands-on. That's how this FREE Color Scavenger Hunt interactive color workbook came about!

iPad with screenshots of the Pages App with a workbook on screen, and text reads "Let's Go on a Color Scavenger Hunt"

What We Love About It:

  1. Personal Touch: Each student kicks things off by adding their own photo to the cover, making their workbook super special right from the start.
  2. Color Hunt: Our school was like a giant canvas for our color scavenger hunt! Kids buzzed with excitement (as those early learners often do!) as they hunted down primary, secondary, warm, and cool colors in every nook and cranny of the building.
  3. Letting Creativity Flow: With the built-in drawing feature of the Pages app, my young artists loved wrapping up the activity with a choice drawing showcasing all the colors they learned about!

Why It Rocks in Our Classroom:

  • Easy Peasy: The workbook's setup with image placeholders and which makes it a breeze for even the youngest artists to jump right in. Simply share it out with your students (I do this with AirDrop via the Classroom App), do a quick step-by-step demo with them to practice adding their picture to the cover, and head out on your color-chasing adventure!
  • Learnin' and Fun: It's not just about colors—it's about exploring, observing, and expressing themselves through art. Plus, they got a sneak peek into what iPads can do with the cool features in Pages.
  • Total Hit: This workbook has been a hit with our crew, sparking creativity and adventure all over the place.

I LOVE this idea. Thanks for sharing. We’re having difficulties with using Apple Classrooms right now. I wonder if I could put a link to this PDF in Seesaw or Canvas for the students to download on their own. But I think I can airdrop to their iPads too.

Thank you!! :) AirDrop would probably work best, so that they get the full Pages template with the photo placeholders. Fingers crossed Apple Classroom challenges subside soon! :)
