Take AIM and Climb
I was fortunate to have attended an inspiring workshop hosted by the amazing ADE duo of @PelletierMart and @GinetteB Their session entitled AIM with Creativity had participants reflect and engage using a Building Thinking Classroom-modelled activity (not sure what Building Thinking Classsrooms is all about and want to know more please get in touch with me).
The question posed to us in this inspirational session was, “How do we ensure that students are active, included, and mindful (AIM) in their learning?” As I started to reflect on this question, it reminded me that learning is a personal journey unique to each learner. We were then placed into groups where we had a thoughtful dialogue that excited me to take AIM. Our leaders asked us to make an infographic of what AIM meant to us and soon I was sketching and fleshing out my thoughts. I came up with a mountain climber analogy as the basis of my infographic. I thought about where one starts with our unique knowledge, cultural, emotional, and personal foundation. Each person’s climb is unique but similar in that there are degrees of risk-taking, fear, and messiness. Along the way, each learner will encounter other climbers, guides, and a sherpa to lead the way. Each climber will have a backpack of soft skills like passion and acceptance; and tools such as technology to help navigate the trek. Once the summit is reached, it’s time for another climb. The journey is endless. Attached is my infographic and feel free to use it or add suggestions.
