Your Identity: Creating an image and Sound Collage

As our classrooms become more and more diverse, it is important that each individual can freely express their identity. Non-verbal expressions are particularly valuable in defining our identity; we can choose the images and sounds that reflect our personality, community, culture and values. This project has students create an image collage (their own photos, copyright free images, text, and doodles) in Keynote. They then create a personal soundtrack using Live Loops in GarageBand for iPad. The soundtrack is then exported back into Keynote for a multimedia expression of identity.
This project was created for the Canadian ADE Academy 2024 by ADEs Howard Simkins ('04), Dr. Patrick Burton ('10), Nisreen Jardaneh ('23), Kelly Janzen ('04) and Tami Brewster ('11).

This is a wonderful idea “multimedia expression of identity”. Non verbal expressions are certainly a strong part of all of us and this activity combines music and photo imagery in a very creative way. Thanks to all the contributors! The Keynote download really helps to walk through the process.

Collages are one of my favorite things to create in Keynote. I have never taught the concept of collages like you outlined in your Keynote file. Thank you for some great new ideas! Also, sound collages?!?! This is the first I've heard of that concept and I can't wait to try it out! What a great resource! Thank you for sharing.
