Resource Description:
This scaffold is an adaptable design template that allows students to document the design process. It helps students identify problems, brainstorm solutions, document their build process, and evaluate their final product. The scaffold's checklist allows for self-assessment, making it ideal for short design tasks and iterative improvements.
Example Lesson
Learning Objective:
- Use a structured approach to document the design process, from ideation to evaluation, encouraging critical thinking and reflective practice.
Lesson Steps:
- Investigate the Problem: Students build a basic Lego taxi(Spike Prime Essential Resource) and identify potential problems, such as lack of safety features, poor navigation, or limited accessibility.
- Design a Solution: Using the scaffold, students brainstorm possible solutions, such as adding headlights for safety, a GPS unit for navigation, or a ramp for accessibility.
- Produce and Implement: Students build the redesigned features onto their taxi, documenting each step in the scaffold with photos and notes.
- Present the Final Product: Students present their redesigned taxi to the class, explaining how their modifications solve the identified problems.
- Evaluate: Using the scaffold’s evaluation checklist, students assess their design process and the effectiveness of their solution, reflecting on what went well and what could be improved.
