I love participating in Dot Day each year, but as a special area teacher, I prefer not to repeat reading The Dot with my students since they are already celebrating it in many sections of the building. Instead, I take the opportunity to explore other wonderful stories by Peter Reynolds. I especially enjoy reading Happy Dreamer to celebrate making our mark on the world with our dreams!

After hearing the story (I love to read it with the Novel Effect App), students are given the opportunity to select a dynamic background, incorporate a selfie using the camera timer, and decorate it as much or as little as they like with drawing or shapes.

Adaptations and add on challenges:

  • Utilize Memojis if students are camera shy
  • Add voice recordings
  • Add animations
  • Share out as a video
