Tech Tips and Tricks - March Madness Activity

This past March, I wanted to find a quick and easy way to share some quick tips and tricks to the staff in my building. So, I created my top 16 tips and created a March Madness style bracket. These tips and tricks were mainly iPad and MacBook suggestions for teachers and students. However, I also threw in several others for commonly used apps in our district.

Then, using Keynote, I made 16 short slide decks to show these tips and tricks in action. I saved these slides as GIFs to my computer. The slide deck and GIF's are intentionally brief. It allows for them to be quickly viewed and keeps the file size small. I'm sharing five of the GIF's I made here (I can only add five attachments to this post).

Each school day in March, I sent out a simple email with both of the GIFs for the tips and asked teachers to vote for their favorite. The winner of each match-up moved to the next round. Many teachers shared these tips with their Homeroom and Study Hall classes, and had them participate in the voting.

After the first round, we continued the match-ups with winners, and continued until we had one overall winner for the bracket: Photo Mark-Up on the iPad. I also have a series of slides and GIFs I can use in my building moving forward.

It was a fun way to introduce (or remind) teachers and students of many of the tips and tricks as well as accessibility features available to them on their devices.

I love this idea so much! This would be a great way to expand the skills of our faculty on the devices they use in class each day. You've inspored some great ideas for me.

Thanks for sharing!

I'd be happy to share the rest of the GIFs I've made if they are helpful.

So much awesomeness in this activity! Love the byte-sized, focused tech tips with the gamified setup for sharing with staff. Also love that teachers got students involved in the fun & learning! Great strategy and thanks for sharing!
