"Fun with Figurative Language: Creating Your Own EPUB in Pages!"

Students will show their understanding of figurative language by creating their own Figurative Language book using a modified template from the Pages App. Students will create a page for each type of figurative language and illustrate their examples using the Drawing tools in Pages.

Essential Question: How do figurative language and literary devices enhance a poem?

Standard: 5.FL.VA.7b

Students will then export their Pages document as an EPUB using their steps:

  1. Tap the Share arrow
  2. Tap Export and Send
  3. Tap EPUB
  4. Tap Advanced & Toggle on Optimize Media for Publishing
  5. Tap Back
  6. Tap Export and Share to Books App

Below is the template and a student example.

Figurative language can be a challenge for ELLs and many little learners. By allowing students to create visuals, they are able to scaffold their learning by matching an image with how they interpret the figurative language. This technique allows you to formatively check their learning without them in fear that they didn't get it right the first time.

Wonderful!
