High School Learning with Apple #10: Explaining a Process

Jennifer Orton (@jorton) and I met at ADE institute in 2023 and have been working on compiling lessons for high school teachers using MacBooks or iPads in class. Jennifer uses iPads, and I use MacBooks, and in our collaboration, we realized that small adjustments can be made to apply the lessons in each environment. Over the next 30 days, we’ll post one lesson idea each day!

Lesson Idea #10: Explaining a Process

Description of the mitosis lesson with work samples
With the variety of classes taken in a high school, students learn about lots of processes. How a bill becomes a law, how to administer CPR, and for this example, the phases of mitosis are examples of what a student might learn.

This teacher wanted her students to show what each phase looked like and provide an audio explanation of each. Students were instructed to use Magic Move in Keynote to demonstrate the phases of mitosis.

📣 How could you Magic Move in your classroom?

Magic Move is one of my favorites! We use it in Algebra 1 and Algebra 2 to show translations of functions!

Agree Elieen! I’d say if I had to pick my favorite Keynote features which I use in education it would be Magic Movie followed by Animation builds (of course also must include drawing!)

Thanks Jennifer and Megan for another impressive lesson!

I LOVE Magic move! This is such a great example of how it can be used. I love the math example to Eileen! I also really like that this works no matter which device (iPad or Mac you are using!). Our science team used Magic move to show the transfer of energy in a food web.
