Literacy Resource for Daily Five, Pages Template

Are you are looking for ways to integrate your iPads and Pencils into your regular classroom literacy program? If you're a fan of the Daily Five Literacy approach then you'll love this Pages template. See the link below to download your own copy!

The Daily Five framework is something my students loved when I was a classroom teacher, and can be a great way to develop independence and a love for reading and writing when included as part of your classroom routines.

Popularized by The Daily Cafe, linked here, I found this approach a great way to increase student choice and self direction as it encourages students to complete 5 'daily tasks' of:

  • read to self
  • working on writing
  • reading to someone
  • word study
  • listen to reading

This resource, downloadable below, includes some editable templates for each task and engages the learner to do more than you can with a paper worksheet! They can use Markup with their Pencil to write and draw, use the video recorder to evidence themselves reading, and use the voice recorder to capture their reflections. There are even movable stickers to record the ratings of their books.

You could encourage your class to start their journals and keep a version of each template clear, duplicating it as they start a new task. It's great to look back at previous tasks throughout a school term or year and to compare progress over time.

If you're just getting started with Pages, then this is a great way to build your skills alongside your students with the instructions page. For experts, then you've got the ability to adapt and change the templates to suit your year level and class. (Note - most elements are 'Locked' to prevent students from changing things. If you'd like to edit these, click the element > Format > Arrange > Unlock. Then lock again afterwards.
