Valentine Activities Via Search

Searching for a Valentine? 💘 Well this week is a good time to find one.

Using the Search feature in the Apple Education Community (top right) here are 12 activities that will fit nicely into any classroom Valentine learning activity.

If you try one, please share as a reply under the post you selected so we can see an example of one you created.

For history teachers and primary source lovers, my simple creation is below, based on a primary source from the Library of Congress. https://www.loc.gov/item/97519505/

Valentine with image of Jackie Robinson
Animated with Keynote, Back cover of Jackie Robinson Comic Book

The lesson Idea: Use Primary sources for an informative Valentine activity.

  1. Choose your history hero from the Library of Congress Prints and Photos.
  2. Research the background of the selected primary source.
  3. Create a valentine card by importing the primary source on to a Keynote slide and add shapes, design or animation.
  4. Share Valentine with a small group or the class, educating all on "who and why" you selected the hero.

I had a U.S. history colleague that never let a holiday go by without changing up his curricular lesson to include a discussion on the meaning and history of the holiday and a activity to "hit it home".

The Keynote techniques used:

  • Image - Remove background, Style - add Border
  • Keynote Animation - Build in - Flip (Robinson), Pop (heart), Fade and Scale (Baseball).
  • Shapes - Rectangle, Baseball, Heart
  • Export - Animated GIF

This seems silly, but I sometimes forget about the search feature when I am scrambling for ideas! This is a great reminder. It's such a powerful tool since it searches both the Learning Center and the Forum.

I love pointing teachers I support in the direction of the search button within the Education Community. What a great place to start to gather inspiration for various skills, holidays, subjects, etc. Thank you for this great reminder, Cheryl!
