Romeo and Juliet-Scene Recording using iMovie

My students generally enjoy reading Romeo and Juliet. By Act III, they have a lot of opinions on the characters and the conflicts. So, instead of waiting until the end of the play, this year I asked students to record a scene from Act III. I provided them with excerpts from each scene, and each group was able to choose their scene and had access to props. Before they could begin, they needed to analyze the scene and demonstrate their understanding of tone and mood. Students completed a planning sheet, and then they had time to rehearse and record. Once the recordings were complete, students needed to use iMovie to edit and add visuals and music that represent the tone and mood of their selected scene. Students were permitted to add modern music as long as it was appropriate for school and for the scene.

Overall, I was impressed by my students' creativity. Next year, I need to provide more time for editing. I also want to link some additional tutorials for iMovie as some students only had limited experience, or were new to our district/new to using these apps. I also need to reduce the size of the scene excerpts because some of the videos were long, and recording them took longer than anticipated.
