Green screen

Green Screen Adventures

A big shoutout to #Jono Mulholland, #Mandy Dempsey, and #AppleMicrocredentials for sparking my green screen inspiration—thank you!

I started by searching the Apple Community for ideas around using green screens and journaling. I was looking for something that offered choice, could capture student learning, was engaging and could be easily woven into the classroom teacher's Inquiry focus, but nothing quite clicked. So with the help of the Apple Coaching journal, I have adapted it to blend Inquiry and green screen into one.

That’s when integrating green screen into our lessons really took off! It allowed students to go beyond just writing or talking about their learning—they could actually experience it. Through creating videos, students were able to physically demonstrate, experience, and creatively explain their understanding. Then, they took it a step further by becoming peer tutors, helping their buddies by teaching their own green screen movie techniques.

‘Movies are such a powerful way to tell stories. Capturing and sharing these learning stories helps students make a deeper sense of what they’re learning.’

As a class, we used Freeform planning—a boundless canvas that allowed students to add and arrange their Inquiry content without worrying about page sizes or layouts. They visually organised their footage/ images, making it easier for them to grasp connections and relationships between ideas.

Happy to share my green screen journal.
