High School Learning with Apple #29: Proper Form Tik Toks

@Dragon_Coach and I met at ADE institute in 2023 and have been working on compiling lessons for high school teachers using MacBooks or iPads in class. @Dragon_Coach uses MacBooks, and I use iPads, and in our collaboration, we realized that small adjustments can be made to apply the lessons in each environment. Over the next 30 days, we’ll post one lesson idea each day with tips on how to make it work in either environment you are teaching in.

High School Learning with Apple #29: Proper Form Tik Toks

I'm not going to lie, I'm a little sad this is my last post of the 30 days of High School learning with Apple. It is has been so fun to share with everyone. Watch for our downloadable book coming soon that has all 30 lessons in one spot for you!

In my final lesson, I give some love to our health and fitness teachers. It can be challenging to fit iPad into a PE activity but the camera is powerful for helping students show and assess their form when completing exercises.

By creating video tutorials, and highlighting student interest in social media style videos, students show off their skills and explain the underlying principles. The video format makes it easy to share and review, so you can give them feedback and track their progress.

Students use the Clips app on their iPad to record their videos. They can then use the editing tools and visuals in the app to point out proper form and technique.

To take this lesson to the next level, students can watch a peer’s video to make sure their own is in tip-top shape. If they record themselves trying a peer’s video, they can give feedback on both the exercise and the tutorial. Another fun way to extend this lesson is to have students record their tutorial at three different levels: standard, modified, and advanced.

Below I have also included a Social Media video template that would help you collect all videos in one spot and then swipe through them like popular social media platforms.

This video example was created with royalty free videos from Canva.com.

📣 How could you engage students in learning with social media style videos?

PE education gets a digital upgrade as students create social media-style exercise tutorials using iPad's Clipp. Love the concept!
