Creative activity: Spark your students’ imagination with an engaging creative writing activity that uses Apple Intelligence to generate custom images as story prompts! The teacher creates images using Image Playground for students to kickstart descriptive writing, narrative development, and storytelling.

📋What you’ll need:  A device a device that supports Apple Intelligence.

⏱️Time needed:  approximately 30 mins.

See Create original images with Image Playground on iPad for further instruction on how to generate your images.

👉Instructions:

  1. Choose a prompt: You can use examples like these or invite students to create their own. Examples: a glowing orb floating above a frozen lake, a tree that grows tiny houses in its branches, a rainbow slide that starts on the moon and ends in a playground, a secret staircase carved into a rocky cliff, a flying train zooming across the clouds, a lighthouse flashing across the stormy sea, a magical library hidden deep inside a mountain, a lantern swinging from a branch in a silent forest, a mirror resting in a field, reflecting a different world, a clock tower frozen at midnight in the middle of a forest
  2. Generate an image using the prompt of your choice using Image Playground and select a style that fits best (animation, illustration, or sketch).
  3. Show the first image to students. Let them observe and discuss what they see and make up a story together.
  4. Create another image and now have students use the same process as above to think of their own story, or let them choose from a variety of images.
  5. Then have the students write their stories in Pages or Notes based on the image and then share with each other.

Go further: Students can generate their own images in Image Playground or use Apple Pencil to add their own sketches, write and draw in Notes or continue the story using a second prompt.
