Context
In a world where students often read and write reviews online, this activity gives them the chance to practise writing clearly, politely, and with a positive tone. By imagining they’ve just completed a Grab ride, students reflect on what makes a good experience and how to express appreciation using precise language. This builds empathy, audience awareness, and real-world writing skills.
Preparation & Flow
1. Discuss What Makes a 5-Star Ride
As a class, brainstorm what makes a ride (or service) great: friendly driver, smooth ride, clean car, good music, etc.
Talk about how tone matters— positive, polite, and specific.
2. Model a Review
Show an example of a short 5-star review with 250 words.
Highlight structure: greeting or opening, positive details, closing.
3. Write the Review
Students write their own short review of a make-believe Grab ride they just experienced.
Encourage them to be specific and kind in their descriptions.
4. Share & Reflect
Students read their reviews to a partner.
Option: Vote on the most polite, most detailed, or most cheerful reviews!
Possible Extensions
Review Other Experiences: Write a 5-star review of a school canteen meal, a classmate’s help, or a fun field trip.
Turn It Into a Skit: Students act out a Grab ride and then “review” it afterwards.
Flip It: Write a 3-star review (politely!) and discuss how to give honest feedback with kindness.
