Learning with iPad - Brainstorming with Post-It App

Context

Like it or not, there is something organic about writing your ideas down on big flip charts and post-it pads when brainstorming.  It can also be exciting when you do it collectively as you build on each other’s ideas.  However it can be a challenge to find space to keep those post-it in place especially when you face space constraints or have yet to finish your session.  Hence, we can make use of the Post-it app to capture all that was done, and continue where you left off in the next session. And always have a copy of the brainstorming board to refer to.

Preparation and Flow

To prepare for this, teacher will need to design a task which requires brainstorming.  Teacher will also need to prepare some physical  post-it, preferably of different colors.  A collection of dark and slightly thicker markers will be required too.  Download the Post-It App.

1. Setting the context.

Students are given a task to brainstorm.

2. Students may be grouped for this activity.

3.  Once in groups, the teacher will unpack the task at hand and get students in groups to brainstorm for ideas by penning them on different colored post-it.  Different colors post-it may be used to represent a group of ideas.  Students may then stick their respective post-it onto the wall or big flip chart sheet.

4. Teacher may then open the Post-it App and take a photo of the wall of colorful post-it.  By doing so, teacher now has a copy of the idea wall which can be edited further in the subsequent sessions.  Ideas may also be regrouped for new perspectives. .

5.  Once completed, the ‘wall’ can be exported into .pdf, and jpeg and shared seamlessly across many platforms.
