Context
Music often connects deeply to our personal memories. This activity encourages students to recall a meaningful moment from their childhood tied to a specific song. By writing about it, they will develop their descriptive writing skills, practise expressing emotions in words, and learn to connect personal stories to broader themes of memory and identity.
Preparation and Flow
Introduce the concept – Discuss how songs can trigger vivid memories.
Choose a song – Get students to select a childhood song that holds strong meaning.
Explain to students you would like them to create a reflective writing (narrative) about the song.
Plan their reflection – Outline when they first heard it, the memory it brings, and its personal importance.
Write in Pages or Google Docs – Include 100–150 words and an image of the song’s cover or artist.
Share (optional) – Students can read their piece aloud or share it digitally.
Possible Extension
Compile all students’ reflections into a digital class anthology using Book Creator.
Pair students to share their songs and ask questions about each other’s memories.
