Our Grade 2 learners recently created a non-fiction information page on the Respiratory System using Pages. They applied non-fiction text features such as:
- Headings to organise ideas clearly
- Photographs and diagrams to support explanations
- Structured content to demonstrate their understanding
Why Pages worked so well for this task:
- The intuitive layout tools made it easy for young learners to structure their thoughts visually.
- Drag-and-drop media features allowed them to add diagrams and images seamlessly.
- The ability to customise fonts, shapes, and design elements empowered learners to present information in a creative yet structured way.
- Built-in accessibility options supported diverse learners to express their ideas confidently.
Pedagogical impact: Using Pages transformed this activity from a writing exercise into an authentic publishing experience. Learners engaged in:
- Conceptual understanding of the Respiratory System
- Application of non-fiction writing skills
- Digital literacy through creating and formatting documents
- Agency and ownership, as each learner made design decisions to best represent their ideas
This activity exemplified how technology can enhance inquiry, creativity, and communication—core to the IB PYP philosophy—while making learning meaningful and enjoyable.
