Hispanic Heritage Month 2025

This year’s national theme for Hispanic Heritage Month (Sept 15–Oct 15) is:

Collective Heritage: Honoring the Past, Inspiring the Future.

I’ve created a Choice Board + Rubric designed to help students explore Hispanic and Latine cultures in meaningful, creative, and tech-integrated ways. The goal is to highlight past contributions, celebrate present traditions, and imagine future innovations — all while giving students voice and choice in how they demonstrate their learning.

✨ What’s Inside

  • Thematic Focus: Collective Heritage, Honoring the Past, Inspiring the Future
  • Key Outcomes: Representation, Connection, and Inspiration & Impact
  • Project Options (students may choose or create their own):
  • Biography Poster of a Hispanic/Latine leader
  • Culture Collage of traditions in food, music, or art
  • Timeline Project of contributions in U.S. history
  • Literature Connection (analyze a poem/story by a Hispanic/Latine author)
  • Music & Dance Exploration (salsa, reggaeton, mariachi, etc.)
  • Collective Recipe Book of traditional dishes
  • Future Voice Podcast or Vision Board highlighting next-gen impact
  • Innovation Challenge — design an invention inspired by culture

Each activity includes suggested Apple apps (Keynote, Pages, Freeform, Clips, Numbers) to make projects engaging and interactive.

📊 Rubric & Standards Alignment

The resource also includes a rubric aligned to WIDA language expectations and NJ Student Learning Standards in ELA, Social Studies, and Visual/Performing Arts. Students are assessed on content accuracy, creativity, theme connection, language use, and effort/completion  .

🎯 Implementation Idea

Teachers can display student projects on a bulletin board by October 10 to celebrate learning across the school community  .

💡 Why share this with your students?

It provides culturally responsive learning opportunities, encourages creativity with Apple tools, and helps students see how Hispanic and Latine voices make an impact — yesterday, today, and tomorrow.

Thanks so much for this helpful resource for Hispanic Heritage Month Sara! Passing this along! Super to have a choice board for the students and included rubric. So important that students are encouraged to do creative and participative activities to celebrate and recognize this heritage month!
