Keynote iPhone Home Page Template for App Design Challenge

During the Clay County 4-H Coding & Creating camps in summer 2025, we utilized Apple's Create and Implement an App Design Challenge and utilizing resources from New Jersey 4-H's Peer Mentorship Program in STEM Clubs and Afterschool Programs.

As part of the activity, I created an iPhone Home Screen template that was the first Keynote slide to each youths’ app prototype presentation. I looked at common app icons and created mock versions of those famous icons (Safari, Apple Health, etc.). I left a space open for the youth to add their app icon from the Design an App Icon to add to their iPhone Home Screen. From there, the iPhone Home Screen template was airdropped to each youths' iPads for them to add the slide to their final app.

iPhone Template in Keynote

During the two weeks of the camp, we incorporated an Easter Egg as one of the apps on the iPhone Home Screen. The first week of camp the campers talked a lot about the Megamind movie. We included a Megamind app icon on the home screen. The second week of camp the campers loved Roblox. We created a makeshift Roblox app icon for the home screen. Easter Eggs on the iPhone Home Screen are a great way to engage the kids and let them know that you are paying attention to their interests and voices.

The iPhone screen helped the kids and their families who attended the Showcase visualize their prototyped Keynote app as a real app that could be developed. Below you will find the templates that you can download and use.

Very cool “Easter Egg” idea for added engagement and explorative learning. Sounds like a very creative camp experience for all. Thanks for the share!
