For our digital citizenship lessons this year, my 8th grade teachers wanted something different to use for students to take notes, reflect, and ultimately see themselves as digital citizens. When I taught social studies, creating sensory figures was a go-to strategy when exploring "key figures" in history - so I thought, why not use this strategy to have our students evaluate themselves as "key digital citizens?"
I created a template for learners to take guided notes and answer reflection questions based on learning and discussion, as well as design themselves as a sensory figure using Freeform's creativity features. This template will be used to supplement our lessons each month in addition to the activities provided in Common Sense's curriculum. We will focus on one of the six elements each month throughout the rest of the year and they will add a new element of design to their central figure that represents how they are digital citizens in each regard.
Attached here are two links to the Freeform template: a blank one that is similar to the image above to use with secondary learners, and a simpler sensory figure that is more appropriate for younger elementary learners. If you'd like to use these, the links should give you a copy of my boards. #wearelcp
