Students frequently bring a wealth of talents into our classrooms. By utilizing Keynote Live and a touch of creativity, we can showcase our students’ personalities while enhancing their fluency, intonation, and comprehension of text. This activity foster collaboration, promotes teamwork, and builds confidence in speaking. Whether the script is memorized or read aloud, these exercises enable students to deepen their understanding, improve fluency, and strengthen vital literacy skills, transforming reading into an interactive and enjoyable experience.
Structure Options:
- Whole Group: acted out a class and screen mirrored to large display through an Apple TV
- Small Group: performed using an iPad device (Bonus: screen record for later viewing)
Get started with the attached resource:
- Open Keynote and tap play to make the video full screen.
- Turn the Live Video on and off using by tapping the camera button.
- Move actors in and out of the screen as they read the provided script.
- Use Screen Recoding to capture the video.
Make It Your Own
Scripts:
- Students can write their own to match desired content
- Many curriculums provide reader theater options (ELA, Social Studies and even Science)
Keynote Live Setup:
- Add background image using the paperclip
- Insert Live Video
- Use the paintbrush..
- Drag to the size of the slide
- Format to 16:9 to match display
- Make the background no fill for seamless green screen display
Creating Your Own Backgrounds:
Use prompt engineering skills and deep comprehension of the setting and theme to create the backgrounds yourself or challenge students. Canva AI and Image Playgrounds are great options. Once you have an image you like use the editor or save option to export the image into Keynote.
