Two Truths; One Lie - An engaging digital story telling activity.
At Boys & Girls Clubs of Middle Tennessee, we love teaching our Club youth how to build a unique way of telling their story! Two Truths; One Lie is the first step in teaching youth how to use design thinking, data flow, linking, & presentation skills.
This is a great activity for both students AND adults! Use this activity for ice-breakers at a staff meeting or training so you can have one available to share with your Club members.
Self expression is a valuable tool for students & adults. This activity gives you the tools to share your story in a fun, gamified way that will keep your group engaged!
Be sure to share your Two Truths; One Lie presentation with the group before getting started!
Have the Club youth sit with their iPad & open the Keynote app. Ask them to make sure AirDrop is set to ‘Everyone for 10 Minutes’ if not already. When everyone is ready, AirDrop the blank template version to all devices.
On slide one, ask students to replace 'Your Name Goes Here' with their name.
On slide two, ask students to replace the three boxes with shapes that will represent their statements. Ask students to ONLY use shapes, no text!
Next, delete the center box & replace with a shape that will be the ‘start’ button. Students can find the shapes by clicking the button highlighted above; typically it’s a square + circle!
Once a shape has been added to the document, tap it then click the paintbrush icon in the top right hand corner to edit. They can change the color, size, add shadows, etc.
Next, ask students to go to slide one. Ask them to select their ‘start button’ shape & when the options menu comes up, have them click ‘link’ (if not visible, use the arrow to show more)
Link each ‘button’ in the document to where it needs to go. Make sure you use the Link To Slide… as highlighted above to pick WHERE the button should take you! Repeat this step for ALL buttons.
Use the drop down next to the presentation name, select ‘Rename’, & have students rename it with their name. Next, select the drop down next to the presentation name & select ‘Presentation Options’.
Under Presentation Type, select ‘Links Only’ so only the buttons added will work when presenting.
When done, have students share with the group their finished projects! This is a great way for a new group of students learn about each other in a gamified & fun way.
