Our kindergarten team paired up with our preschool coach and instructional technology coach to create a meaningful experience that bridged the Creative Curriculum with our 1:1 iPads.
We looked at the unit and what was being asked of the students. We decided that during Project-Based Learning, the students would explore GarageBand as Sandbox Time. We discussed Sound of a Smile and why we heard different sounds. Then each student would come up with their own unique beat.
From there we decided that we had to clarify some of the parameters for our beats. The beat had to be more than just filling the page with pretty colors.
The outcomes for the students were as follows:
- I can explore the electronic beats in GarageBand Beat Sequencer.
- I have the confidence to create an independent beat.
- I can work as a team to collaborate on a beat in a celebratory class Playlist.
We took each of the 8-count beats and streamed them together to create a class Playlist.
The students had a lot of fun and had a great time watching their iMovie Playlist at the end.
