How can Grade 11 students create an original composition and a music video presentation while addressing various social issues that we face today?
Student Empowerment
Through this musical production, we empower the youth to be part of the solution by assigning them to compose an original song and produce a music video that creatively expresses a call to action to the community so they will can spread awareness about certain issues. Students will be challenged to demonstrate their creative and technical skills by advocating solutions to their chosen social issue This will serve as a medium for reflection about real issues that are affecting the culture, the society, and the politics at present. They have to choose one social issue and advocate for positive change by encouraging a call to action. Students are expected to showcase their understanding of the cause, effect, and solution of their chosen social issue. Here are several key issues in our society as reference:
- Human Rights Violation
- Declining preservation of heritage
- Political Instability

In order to further expand the understanding of the current social issues, the students will have to watch a playlist of videos and answer the scaffold activity. Students will present and share their answers to the class. Here are the following applications to be utilized in the scaffold:
- Pages and Keynote
Here are the following applications to be utilized in the advocacy video musical production:
- Garage Band or Logic Pro
- iMovie or Final Cut Pro
Students are expected to work in groups of 4–6 members. The task is to write and compose an original song (lyrics and melody) relevant to one of the given social issues:
- Produce a 3–5 minute music video that reflects the essence of your chosen issue.
- Submit a reflection paper (200–300 words) explaining your chosen topic, intended message, and how your work connects to concepts learned in class

This performance task can also be integrated with other subjects:
- English for lyrical composition
- Music for musical composition
- Arts for costume and props making
- Computer for technical editing
- Social Studies for social issues

Music serves as a powerful medium for expressing beliefs, values, traditions, and experiences, helping preserve and strengthen cultural identity. The audience and listeners can learn about important social issues and understand the effects on individuals and communities. By reflecting on social problems, the youth can become more aware of their roles as citizens and be more inspired to advocate for positive social change. This advocacy music video can help give a wider view in understanding the struggles of other people. It can help promote compassion and respect for diversity. This activity serves as a platform for young people to express their opinions, concerns, and aspirations regarding societal issues.

Socio- Cultural Impact
Overall, a significant socio-cultural impact can be possible with this activity since it uses music as a tool to raise awareness, preserve cultural heritage, promote social responsibility, and encourage community engagement.
