What if time travel was actually possible? What points in history would your students want to visit? Have your students create a travel itinerary pitch for historical moments using KnightLab’s StoryMaps and Apple Keynote!
StoryMaps is an interactive map-making tool that turns any map or image into an interactive resource - combine this with Keynote and its Live Video or Instant Alpha features and your students can try to win over “clients” by highlighting feature spots and landmarks in time that their agency caters to (complete with pictures of them!)
Start by having your students make their way to the StoryMaps site and tapping Make a Storymap. From here, follow these steps to start making an interactive map:
- Give the map a name and click Create
- Click Add Slide on the sidebar to add a new location marker point
- Move the pin or marker to the desired location
- Type in a headline and add a description, upload a photo, or link a resource
- Preview and save the map
Afterwards, have students choose their “Top 3 Moments in Time to Visit” from their map (aka their travel catalogue) which they’ll include in their pitch deck on Keynote. Part of their pitch is to show themselves as tour guides present in these locations, so have them insert themselves in pictures or videos touring these moments using Keynote’s Live Video feature.
You can follow this step-by-step guide by Michael Clear on how to use Keynote as a green screen.
