Can Grammar Win Awards? Turning Grammar into a Classroom Celebration

This lesson demonstrates how Apple iPad native apps can transform a traditional grammar lesson into an interactive and student-centred learning experience. Using Maps, Camera, and Keynote, pupils discover, practise, and apply superlative adjectives through authentic tasks that promote communication, collaboration, creativity, and digital literacy.

Engage

Pupils use the Maps app to explore the given coordinates, identify famous Malaysian landmarks, capture screenshots, and complete simple observation sentences.

 

Explain

The teacher introduces superlative adjectives, explains the spelling rules, and discusses examples with the pupils.

Practise

Using Keynote, pupils match pictures with the correct superlative adjectives and write one complete sentence for each picture.

Produce

In groups, pupils create a Classroom Awards presentation using Keynote. They take photos of the award winners, insert them into the slides, write sentences using superlative adjectives, and present their awards to the class. Example as followed (*Cartoons were used to protect pupils’ privacy);

To conclude the lesson, pupils participate in a short reflection by sharing one superlative adjective they have learnt and producing one original sentence. The teacher revisits the success criteria and provides feedback to reinforce pupils' understanding of superlative adjectives while encouraging them to apply the language confidently in real-life situations.
