Bringing Literacy Learning to Life with iPad and Mac

How can we leverage Apple technologies to inspire and support our students to be engaged, proficient readers?

This was an essential question posed at our ANZ Education Community Summit literacy-focussed workshop where I shared the exciting 30 Evidence Informed Reading Activitiesresource, created by APLS from across Australia and New Zealand;

Inspired by Apple's 30 Creative Activities for Challenge Based Learning resource, we have developed our own 30 activities, divided into four sections, based on the Science of Reading pillars.

In addition - Every task is paired with a Keynote template featuring clear instructions, visual scaffolds and space for student voice. Interwoven through the tasks are invitations for creative expression of ideas and understandings through iPad and Mac.

Multimodal options—including audio and visual supports—ensure learning is inclusive and accessible for all learners.

During the session we had some hands-on time with some of the resource activities in a sample journal that you can download below. We also looked at the power of Keynote Animation to 'play' with digraphs and morphemes. There is a link to a Padlet within the sample journal that contains short videos demonstrating the different animation types that students have experimented with.

These are just some ideas around how we can foster student creativity and bring the joy into literacy learning. We would love to hear how you are leveraging creative apps within your literacy programmes. Feel free to add to the chat!
