Engage : Set Induction ( 3 minutes )

1. Pupils watch a Keynote Animation video of a man's experience when using a public transport compared to a car.
2. Pupils respond to the video by answering which method of transportation will be their choice and why in an audio recording.

Teacher : Which would you choose ? A bus or a car ?

Pupil : I will choose the bus. / I will choose the car.

Teacher : Why would you choose the bus ? / the car ?

• Pupils listen to the different choices from their classmates and discuss the reasons given to see there are both advantages and disadvantages to either mode of transport.

Advantages and Disadvantages of Using a Public Transport and a Car

Explore : Activity 1 (2 minutes)

1. Pupils read and listen to the opinions of 4 teenagers on an Image Gallery about using cars and buses.
2. Pupils state whose opinion they agree with the most and think of a reason for their choice.

(Clockwise top left) Picture 1 - A negative opinion about using cars. Picture 2 - A negative opinion about using buses. Picture 3 - A positive opinion about using buses. Picture 4 - A positive opinion about using cars

Explore : Activity 2 (8 minutes)

1. Pupils find three friends and ask them about their choices, whether they would use a bus or a car.
2. Pupils complete a Numbers table by filling in the columns with a picture of their friend, their choice (Bus or Car), a good point about their choice and a bad point about their choice. Pupils can take an audio recording or type their friends' responses.
3. Pupils evaluate the choices made by their friends and see whether each of their choices has good and bad points.  

Pupils fill in the tables by taking pictures of 3 friends and take audio recordings or type the responses in the table.

Explain : What are Advantages and Disadvantages ? (15 minutes)

1. Pupils discuss the meaning of advantages and disadvantages.
2. Pupils evaluate how many advantages and disadvantages they can think of for their choice of transportation and take an audio recording.  

Explain : Activity 3 Double Bubble Map Think-Pair-Share (10 minutes)

1. Pupils participate in a Think-Pair-Share activity by discussing with a partner each information in the boxes and drag the boxes to the correct bubble: Advantages or Disadvantages.
2. Pupils share with the class their Double Bubble Map and explain the reasons for their decisions.  

Pupils take part in a Think-Pair-Share activity by discussing whether each information in the boxes are Advantages or Disadvantages. Pupils then drag-and-drop to the selected bubbles

Elaborate : Activity 4 Ready to Write ? (1 minute)

1. Pupils play an audio recording and drag word boxes to fill in the blanks of a passage explaining about how to write a paragraph expressing advantages or disadvantages.

Elaborate : Activity 5 Rearrange the Paragraph (1 minute)

1. Pupils read the jumbled sentences and rearrange the order by typing the numbers 1-4 in a Numbers table.
2. Pupils independently review their answers by ensuring all the cells are green which indicates the sentences are arranged in the correct order. This is set using Conditional Highlighting.

Evaluate : Activity 6 Planning Your Paragraphs (5 minutes)

1. Pupils write one advantage and one disadvantage of using public transport instead of cars.
2. Pupils choose one reason and one example from the opinions they have learned from their friends or the teenagers in the Explore stage.  

Evaluate : Activity 7 Type Your Paragraphs (5 minutes)

1. Pupils complete a paragraph on an advantage and another paragraph on a disadvantage by filling in the information from Activity 6

Evaluate : Punctuation Check (1 minute)

1. Pupils check their paragraphs and put a tick mark in the table if they have fulfilled the punctuation check.

Evaluate : Exit Ticket ( 9 minutes )

1. Pupils complete an exit ticket by checking their understanding on the lesson by stating TRUE or FALSE in a Numbers table.
2. Pupils independently review their answers by ensuring all the cells are green which indicates their answers are correct and they achieved the lesson objectives. This is set using Conditional Highlighting.
