How do you see it? Visualising Mathematics with Keynote Animation

In a previous post One Cut Geometry - we looked at integrating the use of Keynote animation with mathematics activities inspired by Dr Jo Boaler and Cathy Williams from YouCubed. In this post we will take inspiration from another YouCubed activity that highlights the power of visual thinking.

The Activity - Squares Upon Squares

The detailed instructions and handouts for this activity can be found here. In this task students are asked how they see the (above) shapes growing in a way that is entirely visual. For example - using colour to show the different growth patterns. We thought we would take this a step further and animate the growth patterns using Keynote.

The following video walkthroughs will take you step by step through the process of creating a template to use as a great starting point for students, followed by a video walkthrough showing how to use the manipulative within the template and applying a Magic Move animation effect to bring your thinking to life!
