Creative Animations with One Cut Geometry

One Cut Geometry is a fabulous Maths challenge you can access from https://www.youcubed.org. The goal of the activity is to create 2-D geometrical shapes by cutting them out of a folded piece of paper with just one cut! The beauty of this challenge is that it presents the opportunity to celebrate the mistakes that you make, taking a Mathematical Mindset approach. If you haven't yet explored the work of Dr. Jo Boaler and Cathy Williams - I highly recommend!

Following this task, we decided to incorporate the use of iPad by photographing our 'mistakes' and importing them into Keynote to both celebrate and unleash our creativity using the animation tools.

I LOVE exploring all of the different animation tools within Keynote with my students. They are all open ended tools that invite students to use their imaginations, be creative and express their ideas.

If you are interested in trying this activity with your students, I have created a step-by-step video tutorial of the process that we worked through.

There are so many creative ways we can use iPad to build on this awesome challenge. I would love to hear what ideas you have! 🤩
