AI enthusiasts project a vision of a future of abundance, of boundless creativity and human expression as the barriers to knowledge and content creation fade away. AI skeptics tell a more cautionary tale, of how resource allocation in our economy is organized around human contributions, and with humans out of the loop, will there be mass unemployment? (More) Wealth inequality? Or will the problems be more spiritual in nature: do jobs give us purpose? What does it mean to be human? This teaching kit is about a tale of technological disruption, and trying to work through all sides of the coming AI transition. It's meant for people doing workforce development to have an honest discussion with their learners about the risks and rewards of new powerful technologies, and to be neither a pure enthusiast, nor a pure skeptic.
This Teaching Kit was designed to help educators and learners design, deploy, and use AI with a human-centered approach. It was created in collaboration with a network of higher education and nonprofit organizations and has been made available under the Creative Commons CC0 1.0 Universal license.
