Learn How to Launch a Mobile App Challenge for Your Community

Download Kode With Klossy’s Mobile App Challenge Playbook, a step-by-step guide to running a self-paced challenge where participants learn Swift, build an app that tackles a real-world problem, and pitch their project in Keynote at a live showcase.

What’s in our Playbook

You can download the playbook below to walk through every stage of the challenge. We've shared pro-tips throughout based on our experience running this program. In the playbook you'll find:

  • Suggestions for how to design the challenge around Challenge Based Learning, with an open challenge statement and three pre-determined categories for student apps to fall into: Accessibility, Sustainability, and Community
  • A suggested timeline built around an eight-week, self-paced build window
  • Tips for how to handle device access, including how to make the challenge work on a Mac or an iPad
  • A rubric for judging
  • A guide for planning a live showcase where scholars can present their app and Keynote on a stage.
Playbook slide showing the challenge statement, three app categories, and what participants submit.
Inside the playbook: our challenge statement, the three categories participants built for, and Pro Tips for designing your own challenge.

Included Resources

Linked in the Playbook (and found in this Box Folder) we are also sharing the materials we built so you can reuse or adapt them for your own community:

About the Challenge

In summer 2026, Kode With Klossy took curriculum that was previously taught in a two-week Mobile App Development camp and adapted it into a self-paced challenge open to our entire community of 13,000+. Participants submitted apps and Keynotes pitch decks, ten were selected to presented live on stage at showcases in Chicago and San Francisco.

Running Your Own Challenge?

We’d love to hear about it! Share what you’re planning in the comments, or reach the Kode With Klossy team at partnerships@kodewithklossy.com.

We can’t wait to see what you build!
