Evolution of a Resource/PostPandemic - PD in a Page

“Learning can be deepened when students are asked to create products that express what they know or think. In particular, it’s the combination of communication and creation that can make these activities more instructionally meaningful.” Excerpt From: Apple Education. “Elements of Learning.” Apple Inc. - Education, 2018. Apple Books.

This quote set the stage for a series of learning opportunities for our school district in the 2021-22 school year and will continue to be reinforced and reinvented this school year. The PD in a Page series is a monthly collaborations between our iCoaches, building administrators, and the Technology Department. Our goal is to bring to instructional strategies rooted in Universal Design for Learning Theory and which highlights one of the 5 Elements of Learning showcased in the Apple Leadership eBook noted above.

Our group focused on 6 strategies at various levels, demonstrated ways to accomplish the strategy, and encouraged teachers to collaborate with our iCoaches for support in planning and implementation.

We encouraged teachers and administrators to consider learning and implementing all or some of the strategies as a part of their professional growth plans. Reflection and sharing is a key aspect of the professional learning process and we provided tools and ideas for creating a safe venue for reflection and sharing at the building and department levels.

We are happy to share this part of our journey with others: Canvas Mobile Learning Resource course.

Denise - Thanks for sharing your Canvas Resource - PD in a page. Such a great idea and outlined so well.

I like how this connects to Jennifer Herring-Watson’s post on how she uses Universal Design for Learning in her College of Education with pre-service teachers, Talking UDL with Teachers in the Coaching section of this Community.

Elements of Learning is one of my favorite Apple Education guides.

So good to see that you are striving to take all your strategies back to UDL. The key is:

  • Multiple means of engagement
  • Multiple means of representation
  • Multiple means of action and expression

Thank you so much for sharing!
