Developing financial literacy with Numbers and Keynote

Being an ex-maths teacher I understand the importance for students to develop financial literacy. In this world where there are so many demands to purchase items, it is helpful for students to investigate how much alone will cost them and to be out of visually represent this. I also like students to be able to take ownership of their learning and work through their learning journey of themselves at their own pace by providing short videos assisting them in their learning.

Numbers is far more than a standard spreadsheet application. It is an endless canvas with endless possibilities which means you are able to insert video and audio into a sheet to direct the students learning. Furthermore, students are able to demonstrate their learning by inserting videos or audio explaining what they have learned.

In the Numbers sheet attached you will see an example of a learning journey around the topic of a personal loan. Each tab has a different concept that the students explore, with a video showing them how to carry out the calculations within the spreadsheet. There is also areas within the spreadsheet for students to demonstrate their own learning.

The video below shows how to create aspects of the sheet that then you can apply to different learning areas in your teaching.

The use of video within a spreadsheet not only empowers the students to work at their own pace but also enables the flexibility for students to revisit a topic, a concept, or a process over and over again to gain mastery.

By combining their functionality of numbers and keynote you're able to create an engaging and interactive learning journey for students using a spreadsheet as your canvas.

Helpful tutorial, Adrian. Thanks! Financial Literacy is certainly an important topic. Numbers as a canvas works well with this topic, and many others. Your detailed tutorial explains it well.

Love the way that the tabs in a Numbers document create built-in scaffolding for students' content exploration and demonstration of new learning & skills. This works great with the topic you've demo'ed but is also wonderful for everything from vocabulary building to science lab processes.

Thanks so much for the helpful tutorial!
