From Cork to California by SwiftCode

Four second-year students from St. Vincent’s Secondary School, Cork represented Europe in the final of the Junior Category of Technovation Girls. This global program seeks to equip young women with the skills to become tech entrepreneurs and leaders.

The four students (all aged 14) developed Bongo Buddies, a free, accessible wellness app that provides certified mental health support for teenagers. Despite stiff competition from over 2,100 teams from 84 countries, Bongo Buddies was chosen. The final took place at the Technovation World Summit held in California on October 5th. The girls placed second, winning the Social Impact Category.

The App was coded in Swift.

These students had minimal coding experience, and the app can be downloaded for free on the App Store. They also created a sticker app as a complementary resource.

They loved the way their work looked on Swift compared to other App development platforms.

The whole project was an amazing experience for the students and their two mentors, Sinead Connolly (ADE23) and Miriam Wash (ADE13). We believe Everyone Can Code

Wow! What a great and meaningful project. I agree 100% with everything the students said about access to mental health support.

BTW...I love the Bongo Buddies sticker app as well.
