Sidecar - Now with Managed Apple IDs!

With the recently released 17.1 iPadOS and 14.1 MacOS updates, managed Apple IDs can now use Sidecar to extend or mirror your Mac display with your iPad (and vice versa)! I'm SO excited about this feature - it will be SUCH a game-changer for teacher productivity, efficient instruction, and those of us who thrive on multitasking. I have already made such good use of it this morning!

For those unfamiliar with this feature, go to System Settings on your Macbook → displays → select your iPad at the top. Then, you can control mirroring or using as a separate display with the Screen Mirroring tool on your devices as long as you have both updated.

LOVING this and so excited to share with my teachers! #wearelcp

EDIT: We discovered you can use Sidecar with your iPad and simultaneously Airplay to a TV! + See the comments below for some troubleshooting tips for initial Sidecar connection.

Hi BRISA

Interesting as I am running 17.1 and 14.1 and I cannot use it, I get the below error. I spoke to Apple Support who informed me that Sidecar isn't compatible with managed apple IDs. What am I missing?

I am experiencing the same result as @fakesy.

Hey there, Megan! I had a teacher with a similar issue yesterday, but it was resolved by signing out of his Apple ID on his Macbook, signing back in, and ensuring the iPad was syncing correctly.

Not sure why you got that answer from Apple Support - it was an Apple Professional Learning Specialist who gave me the heads up a couple weeks ago that the update would allow Managed IDs to work with it. It's been working for us at my middle school thus far, so hopefully this step helps you too!

WHAT. Thanks for the update! I passed this along to our tech team to make sure we are updated and able to do this, as well. I've been wanting access to sidecar!

Thank you for passing on the information. It is a great feature to have, now we can use it at school.

Hey there Mary! First, I would suggest making sure bluetooth, WiFi, and Handoff are turned on on both of your devices.

I've attached a screenshot of what my displays looks like on my Macbook before using Sidecar. I have a dropdown menu on the bottom right side where I can select my iPad. However, I can also find it in my screen mirroring module in control center on my Macbook as well, so I might suggest looking there. Hope this helps!
