My story

I didn't realize how powerful turn and talk could be in the classroom. After talking with the group, I learned how turn and talk can be used more effectively in the classroom. By having small ice breakers, students can become more comfortable talking to each other. By modeling turn and talk with another student, students see an example of how they can turn and talk. Further, I can also have questions on the board for students to look at as they discuss in the turn and talk format. This is useful because the students have more of an idea of what they can talk about. Letting students know that they will have to share out what their partner said is also helpful for accountability.

Such a simple but powerful strategy to encourage more active, focussed, and critical listening in the classroom! Thanks for sharing, Daniel!
