AI in ELA

In my English Lit class, I had students create their rendition of the epic poem Beowulf. Since this isn’t a film class, the focus needed to be on the literature and how students could showcase their understanding of the poem.

Their resources were limited to their phones and any items they could donate to the project. Watch closely for a beautifully handcrafted Hrunting and a very creative replica of Grendel's arm. I asked each student to take on a variety of creative roles and encouraged them take full control of the project. (They are seniors).

They broke out into a variety of self-selected teams. I encouraged them to use AI to create their production. The effects team created the soundtrack and sound effects with http://aiva.ai and the student who edited the project used http://Leonardo.ai to layer in the images of the dead bodies laying on the ground and elevenlabs.io for the voices.

Check out this 1 minute clip. https://youtu.be/orlKVD5HMrA for a short preview or the full 22 minute version from the very talented film editor JMartillion.

So impressive Pam - such an important way to demonstrate the educational uses of AI! Love it when students take charge - that’s when the learning happens!
