Total Solar Eclipse Animation in Keynote

As a resident of Dallas, TX, I've been thinking a lot about the total solar eclipse happening on April 8th. It inspired me to create a visual in Keynote to show what happens when the moon passes completely in front of the sun. Through the use of Keynote's built in shapes and animation (with adjusted build order), I created the visual below.

This could be a great activity for students! I love how an open ended activity such as "create a total solar eclipse visual in Keynote" can spark creativity and problem solving in even our youngest learners! You could also have your students add audio to explain what happens during a total solar eclipse or to reflect on what it was like to see this event in real life. Let the creating begin!

Any chance this is a premade template already for my littles to go off of?

Hi Chelsea! I attached a template to my comment. It includes the sun, moon, and background color. To show the darkening of the sky, I added rectangles of various colors and animated them. Please let me know if you have any other questions!

Thank you for the great resource, Kelsey! We did this activity in my class last week while learning about the solar eclipse. I LOVED the creativity students showed! To take it a step further, the students added voice recordings explaining what happens during a solar eclipse and we then exported the animated model with the audio as a movie. They turned our GREAT!

Used yesterday’s time lapse of the partial to make this model - thanks for sharing the inspo!
