Augmented Reality in the Primary Classroom

After attending a session on AR at the recent CEI Academy, I was inspired to see what it might look like in one of our classrooms.

I had a class that had already used TinkerCAD on other devices. But I had never used it on an iPad device with them. A connection I made at the CEI Academy said I should try the ‘AR Viewer’ feature within the iOS app. So I did!

The children, Year 6 (10-11 yrs), created simple houses using their knowledge of TinkerCAD…

We then tapped the ‘AR Viewer’ and placed the house in the classroom.

The children loved the transformation and enjoyed investigating their houses. Being able to view their houses in this way enabled the children to generate more ideas on how they could improve and add to their designs.

The next thing we will be doing is linking these new skills to the children’s topic they are starting on the Mayan Empire. They are looking forward to creating Mayan jewellery and temples.

Thanks, Andrew.

I love that AR can help students bring their ideas to life. I honestly have only ever used Tinkercad for 3D printing designs. This is such a a great idea! Thanks for sharing.
