Winged Wonders: A Shape Creation

World Creativity and Innovation Day is here again and it has been a whirlwind of a busy year since my last WCID post!

The Everyone Can Create creative activities are very popular in my primary school classroom so I was delighted to hear about the new Design a Bird with Shapes addition. It is not only WCID today, it is also the last day of our spring holiday here in Scotland (sob sob). My family had a wonderful trip to Gothenburg where we ate cake for breakfast, screamed our heads off on rollercoasters and enjoyed our traditional supermarket shop to look for regional Haribo. So to cheer ourselves up a little today, we created our own little trio of birdies.

First up we have my son's Cutie Bird. He was particularly impressed with discovering how layering works...

Next up, my daughter and her Easter chick! Our Swedish holiday was very Easter-themed with chocolate eggs and big green bunnies, so this adorable chick was right on theme.

And finally, my goldfinch. I love a goldfinch and whenever they are spotted in the garden, my kids come running to tell me. I think they are extremely funky looking and are definitely the most stylish bird I have ever seen in Glasgow.

To finish, we decided to place our little family of birds into one of our holiday photos. I can't wait to try this activity in school this week and then get the class outside to place their winged wonders into the local environment. (Fingers crossed for sunshine please!)

It is very cool to see the shaped birds embedded into the photograph. Great idea!

Thank you Cheryl! I had a chance to try this activity out with my class yesterday and they are excited to put their birds into the local environment too.

Fun, share if you can. I love the concept of embedding shapes or other objects into photographs.

I just saw some work that a digital arts elective class at Hamlin School had done. They took photographs with their iPads or iPhones, printed and then embroidered on parts of the photograph - mixed medium creations.

Oh these are wonderful, Ruth! Your Goldfinch is a geometric marvel. Absolutely fantastic, and I love the addition of all three to the photo! 🙌 A great way to branch out and do more with the idea!
