Teacher Portfolio Idea

Hi! My students are currently listening to the novel, Refugee by Alan Gratz. This is a lengthy novel and has 3 different characters with 3 completely different stories. I found that my students were having a hard time keeping them straight, and I was concerned for them, as we were supposed to have a cumulative test once we finished the book. To help them keep track of important events, I began having them use the Notes app on their iPads to create an outline summary of each chapter. Each summary also had to include a connected drawing or picture to provide them with a visual of the important event in that chapter. This was a great way for students to keep track of the different stories within the novel. It also proved to be a great way for students to study for the cumulative test. They were able to read back through their notes/look at the connected pictures they drew in order to jog their memories. I highly suggest using the Notes app as a way for students to create outline summaries and draw visuals when reading a novel that ends with a test or project.
